Short answer: The "Google review removal tool" is Google's own Reviews Management Tool. It does not delete reviews. It lets the owner of a Business Profile report a review that breaks Google's policy, check the status of each report, and send a one-time appeal if Google keeps the review. Google makes every removal decision. No outside app or "removal tool" can delete a Google review for you. If you want someone to handle the report for you, see our Google review removal service.

This guide shows what the tool can and cannot do, how to use it step by step, what each report status means, and how to judge third-party tools that promise removal.

What the Google review removal tool is (and is not)

Google calls it the Reviews Management Tool. It sits inside Google Business Profile Help and works with the Google account that manages your profile.

Google removes reviews that break its prohibited and restricted content policy, for example fake engagement, conflict of interest, off-topic content, harassment or personal information. An honest bad review usually stays. To see which reviews can come down, read How to remove or delete a Google review.

How to report a review with the tool

  1. Sign in with the Google account that manages your Business Profile.
  2. Open the Reviews Management Tool and choose your profile.
  3. Choose to report a review for removal. Next to the review you want to flag, select Report.
  4. Pick the reason that matches the review. A specific reason Google can check (for example Conflict of interest for a competitor) works better than a general complaint.
  5. Select Submit.

You can also report from the profile itself: go to your Business Profile, select Read reviews, select Report next to the review, pick the reason and select Send report. Google's own steps are in Remove reviews from your Business Profile. For help choosing the reason, see How to flag an inappropriate Google review.

What each report status means

Come back to the same tool to check your reports. Google shows one of three statuses:

Status in the toolWhat it meansWhat to do next
Decision pendingGoogle has not decided yetWait. Do not report the same review again from other accounts
Report reviewed - no policy violationGoogle kept the reviewCheck the reason you chose. If you have a stronger one, use the one-time appeal
Escalated - check your email for updatesThe report went to further reviewWatch the inbox of the account that manages the profile

How to appeal when Google keeps a review

If a flagged review does not qualify for removal, the tool lets you submit a one-time appeal. Google allows up to 10 reviews in one appeal submission.

Use the appeal well, because there is only one:

  • Explain in plain words which policy the review breaks and why.
  • Add evidence Google can check, such as proof the reviewer was never a customer, a link to a competitor, or a message that asked for money in exchange for removing the review.
  • Keep it factual. Saying the review is unfair or hurts sales is not a policy reason.

If the review is fake, our guide on how to remove fake Google reviews lists the evidence that helps most.

How long does the tool take?

Google does not commit to a fixed time for a decision, and the tool has no option to make it faster. Check the status in the tool, and keep an eye on the email of the account that manages the profile. Anyone who promises that Google will act within a set time is promising something only Google controls.

Third-party "review removal tools": what to check

Search for "review removal tool" and you will also find browser extensions, AI apps and software that say they remove bad Google reviews. These tools can only help you prepare or send reports through Google's own system. They cannot delete a review. Before you use one, check:

  • Does it ask for your Google password or manager access? Reporting a review does not need access to your Business Profile.
  • Does it promise removal or a success rate? Only Google decides whether a review comes down.
  • Does it offer positive reviews to push bad ones down? Buying or gating reviews breaks Google's policy and, in the US, the FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465).
  • When do you pay? Know this before you start.

To compare services rather than software, see How Google review removal services work and Google review removal companies.

When to ask for help

Most owners can use the Reviews Management Tool on their own. Help makes sense when the review clearly breaks Google's policy but your report was declined, when there are many reviews at once, or when you are not sure which reason fits.

At FairReview we report reviews only through Google's official tools, we do not need access to your Business Profile, and Google makes the final decision. No result, no charge: our fee is collected only if Google removes the review.

FAQ

Q: Is there an official Google review removal tool?

A: Yes. Google's Reviews Management Tool lets the owner of a Business Profile report reviews, check the status of each report and send a one-time appeal. It does not let you delete reviews yourself.

Q: Can the tool remove a review just because it is negative?

A: No. Google removes reviews that break its content policy. A negative review that describes a real experience normally stays.

Q: How many times can I appeal?

A: Once per flagged review. Google allows up to 10 reviews in one appeal submission.

Q: Can someone else use the tool for me?

A: A review can be reported without access to your Business Profile, so you never need to share your password. Be careful with anyone who asks for it.

Q: What if Google keeps the review after the appeal?

A: Reply to the review calmly and factually so future customers see your side. See How to deal with a bad Google review for how to reply.
